Naveen favours safe housing for all

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged the Union Government to accomplish the objective of “Safe Housing for All”.

Patnaik on Wednesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in order to apprise him about the requirement of providing “Shelter Security” to all eligible households in the State.

Patnaik told Modi about the fact that the State Government has identified Geo-Tagged and Aadhaar-Seeded 7.87 lakh houses in the 14 Fani cyclone-affected districts in the State.

The devastating Fani hit the State on May 3, 2019 leaving a trail of destructions. Patnaik said in his letter that the Fani-affected people, who are the eligible beneficiaries, are needed to be brought into the ‘Permanent Wait List’ of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin)’s Special Houses scheme.

The CM pointed out that this would not only provide relief to the Fani-hit families but also ensure safe housing to rural families to withstand the natural calamities in the cyclone-prone areas.

Patnaik further stated that the State Government has identified 6.07 lakh eligible households, which had been left out from the Permanent Wait List of PMAY(G) in 16 non-Fani-affected districts. Accordingly, the Union Ministry of Rural Development in Government of India may be advised to open the Window of Aawas+ Mobile App to Geo-Tag these houses to accomplish the objective of “Safe Housing for All”, the Chief Minister pleaded in his letter.
