Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday requested her Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik to take speedy action in probing the missing of AIIMS Bhubaneswar student Suhail Aijaz.

“Concerning reports coming in about a Kashmiri student, Suhail Aijaz of Kupwara being kidnapped in Odisha, I request the authorities to investigate and take swift action,” Mufti said in her Tweet.

In his response on Tuesday, Chief Minister Patnaik has assured Mufti that all attempts are being made to trace out the missing student. “Our Government is doing everything to trace Suhail. State police and investigative agencies are on the job; and all efforts are being made to trace out the student,” Patnaik said in a Tweet.

On Monday, a suspected Maoist poster was found at the Baramunda bus-stand in Bhubaneswar claiming that the Kashmiri youth has been abducted by the Red rebels.

In the poster, the ultras threatened to kill Suhail if their leader Sabyasachi Panda, who is cooling his heels behind bars, is not released within seven days.

However, the Commissionerate police after seizing the poster are investigating into the incident to ascertain if it is authentic or a prank by some mischievous elements.

Suhail, who is a resident of the terrorists-infested Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir and an MBBS student at the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar has been missing since February 9. The police of three States and the Central agencies like the NIA have failed to trace the whereabouts of the student despite all efforts so far.

It is apprehended that Suhail might be lured into joining the ranks of terror groups like other educated youths of his home district.
