The Academy of Yoga and Oriental Studies (AYOS) will organise a two-day National Vedic Conference on “Brahmana literature” of Vedas at the conference hall of the SC ST RTI, CRP Square here on Saturday and Sunday.
The speakers at the inaugural session will be Prof AC Sadangi and Prof Nilakantha Pati, both former Vice-Chancellors of the Sri Jagannath Sanskrit University, Puri. At the valedictory session on Sunday, the guest speakers will be Prof GK Dash, former HOD, Department of Sanskrit, Utakal University, and Prof BK Swain, HOD, Dharmasastra Vibhag, Sri Jagannatha Sanskrit University. Both the inaugural and the valedictory functions will be presided over by AYOS Director Dr Indulata Das.
The participants include scholars from Biswabharati, Santiniketan, Hyderabad, Agartala and other parts of the country. People interested in the Vedic literature are invited to participate in the conference. Subject matter-wise, the Vedas are divided into four groups: Samhita, Brahmana, Aranyaka and Upanisad. The Samhita portion is mainly the prayer for various gods. The Brahmanas are mainly based on rituals. The Aranyakas are also rituals mainly meant for the ascetics.
The Upanisads are the philosophical deliberations. These are the fountainhead of the Indian philosophy, pointed out Dr Indulata Das. Established in 2006 to protect and promote Indian culture, the AYOS for the last four years has been organising Vedic conferences to cover the whole gamut of the Vedic literature.
