Acting on a complaint filed by Odisha-based Human Rights Watchdog, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Chandigarh IG of police (IGP) for an action-taken report over stopping of ambulances during movement of VVIPs resulting in the death of patients.
Human Rights Watchdog secretary Sangita Swain had moved the apex human rights watchdog alleging that a patient died in the ambulance in Chandigarh recently during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the city.
“The police officials obstruct road for the smooth passage of PM’s convoy. An ambulance carrying a patient was also stopped by the police till the carcade of the PM passed. As a result the patient died inside the ambulance. It amounts violation of human rights,” alleged Swain.
She too highlighted the situation in Odisha where ambulances were stopped during the movement of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s convoy.
The commission has asked the Chandigarh IG to submit a ATR within four weeks.
