The Posco Pratirodha Sangarm Samiti (PPSS) on Wednesday observed the ‘National Protest Day’ opposing South Korean President Park Geun-Hye’s four-day visit to the country, environmental clearance granted to South Korean steel major Posco by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests and the State Government’s recommendation to the Centre for allocation of the Khandadhar mines for the project.
Hundreds of PPSS activists staged demonstration at Patna near Dhinkia village. They burnt the effigies of South Korean President, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Environment and Forests Minister Veerapa Moily to register their protest.
“We observed the day as the National Protest Day to show our strong opposition to the proposed Posco project. We will also intensify the stir till the Posco quits from our area,” said PPSS leader Abhaya Sahoo.
On the other hand, the activists of the United Action Committee (UAC), a pro-Posco outfit, too continued their agitation at Ersama tehsil office for the third consecutive day, pressing for several demands, including holding of RPDAC meeting.
