Nari Samaj to toe Anna Hazare's path in Odisha

The Odisha Nari Samaj, a State-level federation of 54 tribal women’s organisations, on Wednesday decided to follow Anna Hazare’s path in Odisha to protest land amendment Ordinance.

Farmers belonging to the federation resolved at a meeting that they would not allow the Central Government to pass the land Amendment Ordinance Bill. They would resort to a mass movement in the State, a women activist of the federation said.

Federation spokesperson Karmi Beshra said triabl women’s right to livelihood would be affected if the clause of the Bill which allows land acquisition without consent of landowners is not repealed. Compensation for lands lost and jobs would not help anyway to poor tribals, she said, adding that tribals need food and not money.
