Senior Congress leader and leader of Opposition in the Assembly Narasingha Mishra on Sunday visited the Kalahandi District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Bhawanipatna to inquire the circumstances under which Dana Majhi left the hospital carrying her wife’s body on his shoulders.
Accompanied with former Kalahandi MP Bhakta Charan Das, Mishra visited the ward, where Dana’s wife had been admitted, and talked to the paramedical staffs there.
later, he held a discussion with the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) and other senior DHH officials and inquired about the Dana Majhi incidence.
“We suggested some measures to the CDMO to prevent such unfortunate incidences in future. We have asked the CDMO to arrange private ambulances for patients who are being referred to other hospitals and meet the expenses from the Rogi Kalyan Samiti, if needed,” said Mishra.
However, Mishra cancelled his proposed visit to Majhi’s village, 60 km from Bhawanipatna.
The State has earned a bad name across the globe for Dana Majhi carrying his wife Amang Dei's corpse, wrapped in clothes, on his shoulders along with his 12-year-old daughter. Amang had died of TB at the DHH on August 24.
Majhi who lives 60 km away from the hospital, could not afford to hire a vehicle to carry his wife’s body to his village for last rites.
