Putting all the speculations to rest, senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra on Monday denied reports of his resignation as leader of Opposition (loP) in the State Assembly and said the talks in this regard are all rumours.
It had been reported in a section of media that an angry Mishra along with other party MlAs who are in New Delhi now have sent their resignation to the party high command after being humiliated by AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi allegedly over their demand for change of guard in the PCC leadership on Saturday.
“I have not resigned from the post of leader of Opposition. It is all a rumour,” said Mishra after meeting with Rahul Gandhi for the second time on Monday.
He further stated that since Congress president Sonia Gandhi is not well now, they would meet her after she gets well. The MlAs would stay in Delhi for some more days and meet AICC leaders, he added.
Sources said senior several central party leaders tried to persuade the Mishra-led team and managed to fix an appointment of Mishra with Rahul Gandhi on Monday. And Mishra met Gandhi on Monday alone. However, it was not clear what transpired between the duo.
The 16-member team of Congress MlAs met Vincent George, a close aide of party president Sonia Gandhi, on the day seeking appointment with her.
Sources said the leaders were not given appointment to meet Sonia Gandhi as she isn’t keeping well presently.
The MlAs had raised the Mahanadi issues during the meeting with Rahul Gandhi on Saturday.
Sources said the Mishra-led team are camping in the national capital against the PCC president Prasad Harichandan but the party high command is not in a mood to change the guard as the panchayat elections is fast approaching in the State.
