Narasingha: Arrest contractor, officials

Published on:

leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra termed the Bomikhal flyover collapse, which killed a person and injured many, as the most unfortunate and deplorable incident and sought action against all concerned under Section 304 of the IPC.

“As charge of the Works Department, the Chief Minister is to owe the moral responsibility. This is a case of culpable omission and whoever is responsible is liable to be booked and arrested under Sec 304 of IPC,” Mishra, who visited the spot and talked to some injured in the hospital, said in a statement.

He said the prime accused contractor and the departmental officers in charge of supervision cannot escape the liability.

He demanded that Rs 1 crore be paid to the family of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to each injured person besides free treatment.

“locals told me that they had appealed to the Government to take appropriate action against the substandard work. They further said that a ruling party MlA, who was a former Minister, is the business partner of the contractor and that is why neither the quality of work taken care of nor the necessity of an over-bridge probed. If the allegation is true, it is really most unfortunate and speaks of the governance in the State,” pointed out Mishra.
