The Institution of Engineers (IEI) State unit organised an all-India seminar on ‘Use of Nanotechnology in Medical Applications’ here on Saturday.

Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University, IMS and SUM Hospital Dean Prof Gangadhar Sahoo said the use of nanotechnology in medicine offers some exciting possibilities. Some techniques are only imagined, while others are at various stages of testing and implementation.

The use of nanotechnology in the field of medicine could revolutionise the way we detect and treat damage to the human body and disease in future, added Sahoo.

Institute of life Sciences (IlS) senior scientist Dr Sanjeeb Kumar Sahoo said nanotechnology holds enormous potential to revolutionise the field of medicine through manifold applications. In his presentation he spoke on the nanotechnology-enabled products benefitting patients through a reduction of side effects that ultimately enhances the patient's quality of life and reduces a patient's recovery time.

Discussions were also held on nano-materials and nano composites, applications of nano-composites, nanotech in drug discovery, delivery and tissue engineering, nanotechnology in implants, nanotechnology in surgery and diagnostic tools, nanotechnology in cancer treatment and nanotechnology in medicine.

Among others, NM Group of Institutions, Bhubaneswar chairman

Ramesh Chandra Parida, IEI Odisha centre chairman Prof PK Parhi, seminar organising secretary Prof Rashmi Ranjan Rath, convenor Basanta Kumar Behera and honorary secretary Prof KK Rout were present.
