The Nandankanan Zoological Park here would be transformed under the State’s Government’s 5T initiative and turned into a world-class zoo. The adjacent Chudang jungle would also be merged with Nandankanan.
A proposal regarding this was submitted by the Forest and Environment Department to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday. The CM while approving the proposal directed for a complete ban on use of plastics in the park.
The renovation work would be done in two phases. In the initial phase, the zoo and the Botanical Park would be renovated. The Chudang jungle would be developed in the second phase.
In the new scheme, modern frontage and landscaping, tunnel aquarium, water bird aviary, enclosures and hub for children to learn about nature would be developed. Besides, a night safari and safari complex would also be developed.
