The Nandankanan Zoological Park will bring a pair of Himalayan black bears along with a sloth bear pair from the Birsa Munda Zoological Park in Ranchi in an exchange programme on September 13.
Besides, the zoo will bring four mute swans for the first time. In exchange, the zoo will give away a pair of hippopotamus and six birds including a pair each of Grey Heron, Night Heron and White Ibis. The animals and the birds would be brought by a team supervised by zoo Assistant Director Kamal lochan Purohit. The outgoing animals and birds would leave a day later, Purohit said. Zoo Deputy Director Manoj V Nayar said the new bears would help increase the species’ population in the zoo.
