Two customers who are namesake have caused worry for the SBI officials in Sundargarh district. For, while one withdrew an amount of Rs5,000 from his account through his ATM, the other complained that the money was debited from his account! The bank authorities are now verifying the details of the two accounts.
The two account holders are Bijay Kishan, a resident of Kanika village and his namesake Bijay Kishan of Bundelkani village. Both had saving accounts, one each, in Kanika SBI branch in Sundargarh.
Recently, Bijay Kishan of Kanika lodged a complaint at the Kanika branch that Rs5,000 was debited from his account even if he did not withdraw. He alleged that Bijay Kishan of Bundelkani withdrew the cash by using his ATM card and password. He told bank officials that since his ATM card had been misplaced somewhere, he had applied for another ATM card. But till date he had not received it. He also alleged that postal department delivered his ATM card to Bijay of Bundelkani and thereafter Bijay of Bundelkani took the password from bank and withdrew Rs5,000.
After receiving the complaint, Kanika bank officials verified the password register and found two ATM password papers had been issued to two Bijay Kishans on two separate dates i.e. August 25 and September 11 and there are two signatures (both in Odia) against both names of Bijay Kishan while taking ATM password papers. While bank officials are under impression that both Bijay Kishan have taken their passwords on these two separate dates, Bijay Kishan of Kanika claimed otherwise. On the other hand, Bijay of Bundelkani told that he is an illiterate person and he does not know anything about ATM card and password of Bijay Kishan of Kanika.
“We are totally confused and we are verifying details of both account holders of same name in our bank,” said Kanika SBI In-charge S Munda.
