The Utkal Sammilani, Central Committee observed the 90th death anniversary of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das by garlanding his statue at Gopabandhu Chhack here on Friday.
A meeting was also held under the chairmanship of Sammilani Central Committee president Basant Kumar Tripathy in which the members demanded naming of the Utkalmani as “Bharatmani”.
The members also said it is a matter of great regret that the Satyabadi Vana Vidyalaya established by Gopabandhu Das and his memorial platform in the school are neglected. They demanded that the State Government take urgent steps for restoration of the school and the monument.
Among others, Sammilani Bhubaneswar branch president Tapas Ranjan Mishra, Bhubaneswar Mahanagar branch president Bikram Keshari Maharathi, Satyajit Nayak, Trinath Samat Ray, Girija Sankar Mahapatra, Dr Banambar Parida, Dr Kashinath Rath, Dr Abani Bhusan Mishra and Jugal Kishore Nayak were present. Sammilani Central Committee secretary Radhanath Praharaj coordinated the meeting.
