The Manav Adhikar Surakshya Manch has demanded that the Economics Department of the Berhampur University be named after eminent Economist Prof Prahalad Panda, who passed away at his residence here on
Tuesday.
The Manch made this demand before university Vice-Chancellor Rajendra Prasad Das through a memorandum submitted on Thursday.
“After completing PhD in Economics from the Berhampur University, Prof Panda was into teaching for many years till he retired in 1998. Besides producing a number of meritorious students, he has written many books on economics and about 300 essays on culture and nationalism in Odia. His demise has created a vacuum in the field of economics and literature in the country. To put his marvelous life of intellectuality enliven for generations to come, the Economics Department should be named as ‘Prof Prahallad Panda Economics Department,” Manch president Upendra Nath Mishra and general secretary Maguni Nahak urged in the memorandum.
