The Nalco, which set up the Gandhi Smruti Pitha at Puri beach in 2002 at a cost of Rs 50 lakh and subsequently handed it over to the Puri-Konark Development Authority, will take the responsibility of its maintenance for the next 10 years.
In view of the state of dereliction of the park, Nalco CMD TK Chand has announced that the company would undertake maintenance of the park.
“We would make it a major tourist attraction, besides providing a salubrious environment for the joggers,” announced Chand during his site visit on Sunday.
The Nalco would renovate the Gandhi library therein, including the mural and watch tower, besides going for a massive plantation drive, he added.
The Nalco has also come forward to support installation of five giant lED screens at vantage points in the vicinity of the Jagannath Temple for the safety and guidance of devotees.
Chand also elaborated the discussions with Puri Collector Arvind Agarwal, SP Asish Singh and other representatives of the Puri district administration in this regard. A high-level committee would finalise the modus operandi within a week, he informed.
