The National Aluminium Company ltd (Nalco) organised the 19th Plant level Advisory Committee (PlAC) Meeting here in Monday under the chairmanship of Nalco CMD Ansuman Das.
State MSME Department Secretary Panchanan Dash, Special Secretary, Industries Sarat Chandra Naik, Director of Industries Nityananda Palai, and Nalco Director (Commercial) Soma Mondal held discussions with representatives of various micro and small-scale as well as ancillary industries.
Mondal highlighted the Nalco’s concern as a mother industry towards promoting interests of local micro and small enterprises (MSEs).
Ansuman Das said that in context of globalisation it is evident that the MSEs should lay more emphasis in maintaining quality, cost competitiveness and technological upgradations.
Das said the Nalco is eager to support the MSEs in whatever way feasible. The company placed orders to the tune of Rs 294 crore to MSEs in 2013-14. The upcoming Aluminium Park at Angul is expected to promote downstream and ancillary industries.
The Nalco has committed to supply 50,000 MT of hot metal to the JV company and Odisha-based industries should take advantage of it. Panchanan Dash advised all District Industries Centres (DICs) to be more active as facilitators between the Nalco and the MSEs.
The items identified for purchases from MSEs and ancillary units were also detailed out at the meeting. Notably, the Nalco has given ancillary status to 57 MSEs of the State.
The participants at the meeting included representatives from the OSIC, Directorate of Industries and Export Promotion & Marketing (EP&M), representatives of Odisha Small Scale Industries’ Association, Odisha Young Entrepreneurs’ Association, Odisha Assembly of Small & Medium Enterprises and Utkal Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
