The Nalco has refuted the allegation that due to overflow of rainwater, mixed with toxic waste from its smelter at Angul, there has been massive crop loss in the peripheral villages.
A company release here on Saturday said that immediately after the allegation was made, a five-member standing committee of the company was deputed to the sites for investigation. As per its findings, there has not been any overflow of toxic waste and the Nalco is no way responsible for alleged crop loss.
Nalco ED (S&P) SK Roy emphasised that the Nalco, as a responsible corporate citizen, is always aware of its responsibility towards preservation of environment. It may be mentioned that Regional Officer of State Pollution Control Board Dr BB Dash, while admitting the crop damage, had said on Friday that the poisonous water was released from other than Nalco source.
