Indian women’s hockey team captain Sunita lakra along with her teammate Deep Grace Ekka met Nalco CMD Dr Tapan Kumar Chand on Wednesday after returning from the 5th Asian Champions Trophy and briefed him about their achievements in the tournament.
Dr Chand appreciated lakra’s leading the team to achieve the runners up title in the tournament. The team, led by defender lakra performed well in the tournament, beating Japan by (4-1), China by (3-1) and Malaysia by (3-2). In the finals, the team lost to Korea by (0-1).s
Dr Chand said, “We are very proud of Sunita lakra for helping brand Odisha shine in the sporting arena.” It might be mentioned here that lakra is an employee of the Nalco.
He said sportspersons like Sradhanjali Samantaray, Debasis Mohanty, Shiv Sundar Das, Anuradha Biswal, who are part of Nalco family, have brought laurels to the State and the company as well. With a view to promote sports and encourage the sportspersons of Odisha, the Nalco is planning to induct more sportspersons in future, he added.
