N'garh ‘Queen’ sends postcards to express empathy

In this virtual era that is dominated by gadgets, receiving a postcard letter from someone surely makes it an emotional experience, while refreshing past memories.

The feeling of reading a message on postcard can’t be described in words. This turns out to be even more memorable when the letter comes from a ‘queen’ during this pandemic that has shattered people both financially and emotionally.

This is literally happening in Kandhmal. Queen (Rani maa) of Nayagarh (former Kandhmal MP) Pratyusha Rajeshwari Singh is sending postcard letters to people inquiring about their well-being and also uplifting their morale, promising to stand by them during their difficulties.“I hope you are doing well and pray for your well-being in this difficult pandemic time. I have been there in all your good and bad times and that won’t change. Stay home, stay safe,” the letter reads. She has, so far, sent about 750 letters to people including volunteers who are risking their lives to help downtrodden and other affected ones.“Wow,” Sibaram Sahu (a receiver) screamed.

“It was a surreal experience when a postman handed me this postcard.

Without wasting a moment, out of curiosity, I flipped the letter to check who sent it. Oh, my god! It was from ‘Rani maa,” says an ecstatic Sibaram. Her main target, the queen says, was the elder persons in villages who are unfamiliar with the digital world and highly vulnerable to the Covid-19.

With younger generation most of the busy in their mobile phones, the elder ones feel lonely with no one around to spend time with.

She mostly shot letters to village mukhia (head), retired teachers, retired army personnel and poor afarmers.
