N’pada clubs hold 2-day Shramadaan Shivir

The Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Nuapada, in collaboration with the Maa Banjari Youth Club, Goijore, organised a two-day Shramadaan Shivir from August 9 to 10 at Goijor village of Komna Block for raising funds.

“Money generated through the Shramadan Shivir will be spent on helping the poor and needy children to meet their educational expenses and pregnant women of the village for their emergency medical aid,” said Maa Banjari Youth Club president Jagatram Nial.

“The objective was to make the youth club economically self sufficient as well as to help the needy people of the village,” informed district coordinator of NYK Asish Kumar Thakur.

As per the programme, the volunteers and the coordinator worked in paddy fields on contract basis to transplant paddy and donated all the money earned to the club, informed Thakur.

The rural youth clubs of the district are taking many welfare initiatives for the development of their village and locality.

However, since these youth clubs are mostly dependent on voluntary contributions of their members and like-minded people, very often they face financial constraints, said Nial.

The youth volunteers of nearby youth clubs of the block like Kalhar Yuva Manch, Bhela, Royal Club, Ganiyari, Yuvodaya Club, Bhela and Samaj Darpan Club, Maniguda, volunteered to participate in the two-day programme to support the noble cause, he added.

Apart from club president Nial, secretary Nabin Bag, NYK volunteers Tekram Pandey, Sangram Singh, Sanjukta Sabar and Tikeswar Hans joined the Sharmadaan drive.

“The unity of the youths is the real strength. With minimum handholding support, young people can do wonders. I am hopeful this effort will inspire rest of the youth clubs of the district to come up with their own innovative solutions to generate funds to meet their expenses,” said Thakur.
