Mystery shrouds woman doc’s death in city

Published on:

Police on Friday recovered the body of a woman from a rented house in Shree Vihar under the Chandrasekharpur police station in the city.

The deceased woman Manaswini Barik, identified as a resident of Melchhamunda village of Bargarh district, was working as a doctor in a private hospital here. She was staying in the rented house with her brother, who had gone to their native village for the Nua Khai festival.

Sources said the victim’s family members called her up on Thursday over phone, but they failed to get any response. Worried, they then informed some hospital staffs who rushed to her home only to see her body lying in the house.

“Police have recovered a syringe and an injection sample from her room, but I don’t think it’s a case of suicide,” says a family friend of the woman doctor.

Her father also voiced similar views and said he is not sure whether his daughter committed suicide or she was murdered.

Sources further claimed that the woman was divorced a few months back. While an investigation by police was underway, it was yet to be ascertained under what circumstances she took the extreme step.

“The body of the victim was sent to the Capital Hospital for postmortem. The cause of death can only be ascertained after getting the postmortem reports. Further investigation is on,” said a police official.
