Mystery shrouded over the death of a minor girl, who is said to have allegedly set her ablaze on Monday early morning at Nuapada village with an aim to end her life.
Official sources said Mitali Bhoi (13) alias Minzi , daughter of Kalia Bhoi of Sukarapada village under Nischantakoili police limits of Cuttack district, was staying at her widow relative’s house in Nuapada village. On Monday early morning, she was rushed to the district headquarters hospital with serious burn injuries. As her condition deteriorated, she was later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment. There she succumbed to her injuries.
The deceased minor girl was a student of class 8 in Manikapur-based Nrushinghajew High school. The relative sister of the deceased Madhuri Das stated that on Sunday night Minzi went to sleep after completing her dinner. But on early Monday, Minzi slyly took a kerosene jar from the room and later made an attempt to commit suicide by setting her afire. She was rescued with critical burn injuries. But she could not say as to why Minzi took the extreme step.
On the other hand, one Bhagia Bhoi, who is the cousin of deceased Minzi and took her to the hospital, stated that Minzi was burnt critically as an accidental fire erupted from the lantern while she was sleeping inside a mosquito net in a room.
The contradictory statements of the deceased’s relatives here put a question mark on the exact cause of death of Minzi. However, the Patkura police had not conducted any inquiry to the mishap. When contacted. Superintendent of Police Satish Kumar Gajbhiye stated that the matter was yet to come to his notice.
