Mystery shrouded the death of a prisoner lodged in the Jharpada Special Jail here on Sunday. While the jail authorities claimed that he died due to illness, the victim’s family alleged foul play.
The deceased was identified as Gadadhar Sahu, a resident of Badatota in Jatni in Khordha district. He had been convicted in a rape case in 2015 and sentenced to 10 years in jail.
According to the jail authorities, Sahu complained of illness in the morning, following which he was being shifted to the Capital Hospital, but he succumbed to death on the way. Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased alleged foul play in his death. They alleged that the jail authorities tortured him that led to his death.
