Mystery over Ravenshaw girl's death continues

Published on:

Even as the post-mortem report of the Ravenshaw University girl, who died falling from the third floor of a shopping mall here on Tuesday evening, is still awaited, the city police on Thursday questioned the university authorities, staff and students in connection with the incident.

The police have also sought CCTV footage from the mall for examination to ascertain the exact cause of the death of the undergraduate student as confusing reports are emerging about the incident. While the girl’s mother claims that her daughter was murdered after she was pushed from the multistoried building, many others believe that the girl committed suicide as she was under academic pressure.

Meanwhile, the Ravenshaw University authorities rebutted the academic pressure, saying there was no such complaint in this regard with them. “University students are not given heavy homework or assignments like schoolchildren, and in the semester system of examinations that we follow, examination pressure is almost nothing,” said a senior university teacher. The police on Thursday obtained the progress report of the deceased and questioned some of her teachers and friends. “The police ascertained her studentship and collected her progress report,” said university Registrar Dr PK Jena.

It may be recalled that the body of another university girl was retrieved from near railway tracks on the outskirts of the city last week.
