Minority community members, including women, of Chandanpur village on Monday staged a fast-unto-death agitation in front of the district Collectorate protesting the callous attitude of the administration.
The agitators alleged that the only road that is available for use in their area by more than 6,000 locals has remained waterlogged for last six months putting the locals in hardships.
A portion of the road has virtually turned a drain. As a result, an unhygienic situation prevails in the locality with the inhabitants suffering from various diseases like malaria, dysentery, vomiting and skin diseases.
Though the alleged matter has umpteen times been brought to the knowledge of the local PRI members and the concerned authorities, but nothing has been done to improve the situation, they said.
“We have earlier brought the matter before the notice of the district Collector to take adequate steps to drain the water but in vain,” stated Sk Nisar, an agitator.
Sub-Collector Kahnu Charan Dhir, later, rushed to the spot and discussed with the agitators by assuring them that their demands would be fulfilled.
