About 150 minority community women under the fold of Golarhat-based Utkal Grameen Producer Group were busy in making the Tri colour to meet the deadline of August 8 delivery.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has requested the country people to hoist the national flag in their homes as a part of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative from August 14 to 15, so the ORMAS of Kendrapada and Mission Shakti had given orders to the Golarhat-based Utkal Grameen Producer Group to produce Tri colour ,which would be distributed to the households of the district ahead of the Independence day celebration, especially as the country is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav on the 75th years of Independence.
According to Utkal Grameen Producer Group secretary Reshma Begum, “We received an order for producing 60,000 flags from District ORMAS and Odisha Livelihood Mission and we delivered the flags by August 8.”
The raw material for stitching and preparing the flag from the concerned department reached us well in advance. As time was short, as many as 150 minority community members worked day-in and day-out as it’s a privilege and honour for the members to be a part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', stated Gulapsa Rani, an artisan.
“We are excited and happy that our hand prepared national flag is going to be hoisted in several households of the district under the Government campaign. Besides, we are able to earn some amount by producing the flag,” said Sarifa Begum, an artisan.
“The Indian National Flag represents the hopes and aspirations of every Indian. It is the symbol of our national pride. Several people including members of Indian Armed forces have ungrudgingly laid down their lives to keep the Tri colour flying. We took utmost precaution
to ensure that our feet did not touch the flag while preparing them, as it would amount to disrespect to the Tri-colour. We also followed the guidelines made to fold the national flag with respect,” added Reshma.
