Muslim body opposes UCC, amendment in Personal law

Published on:

The minority community members under the fold of Sunni Tanzim-Ul-Olama of Kendrapada district on Thursday at a Press meet opposed the Central Government’s questionnaire seeking amendment in Muslim Personal law by implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

The Indian Constitution has given rights to every citizen to lead a life of their own by adopting the religious tradition and customs, but now, the law Commissioner has been interfering in their rights with an ill intention. The Government does not have any right to deprive the Muslims of their religious freedom, they said.

The members said the interference of the Central Government in the matter of Muslim Personal law and triple talaq is uncalled for. As far as triple talaq is concerned, it is as per Quran and Hadis and therefore no one has the right for any interference in the matter, they said.

They further maintained that no discussion could be made on Quran, Hadis  as Muslims have every right to live their life as per Islam.

The Muslim Personal law Board is the institution of Indian Muslims, Quran and Hadis .The Quran and Hadis cannot be changed till the Day of Judgment, said Mohammed Abdus Salam, secretary of Sunni Tanzim-Ul-Olama.

The Government cannot impose Uniform Civil Code on people from different faiths. A signature campaign of Minority community against any amendment in Muslim Personal law has been conducted and the signatures have been sent to the Supreme Court, the Central Government and also to the President of India, he said.

Khalil Ahmed, president of Sunni Tanzim-Ul-Olama, of Kendrapada district, said Muslims would not tolerate interference into Islamic Personal law.
