The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the district is in a tight spot as the opposition BJP and Congress are demanding arrest of Zilla Parishad President and BJD leader Jyotirmoy Dalai following his alleged involvement in a murder case.
According to reports, one Jhumalata Swain of Mahadevbast village under the Kakartpur police station had lodged a complaint that on November 27, some persons including Jyotirmaoy had attacked her husband Prabir over a land dispute. Seven persons were injured in the incident.
Seriously injured Prabir was taken to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police registered a case of murder against 22 persons, including Jyotirmoy.
BJP district president Pravanjan Mahapatra demanded resignation of the Zilla Parishad President and his arrest while Sachetan Nagarik Manch activist Priyadarshan Pattnaik staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday demanding his arrest.
However, Jyotirmoy denied his involvement in the incident, saying it was a conspiracy to tarnish his political image.
