Multiple land, house allotments: three more Vig cases slapped

The Vigilance Directorate here has registered three more cases in connection with multiple allotments of plots of land and houses under the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and booked as many ten persons, including two OAS officers, under various Sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the IPC.

The cases were registered as per the modalities for implementation of the recommendations of the Taskforce in connection with multiple allotments under the BDA, the Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) and the Odisha State Housing Board (OSHB), said a release issued by the Vigilance Directorate on Friday.

The Taskforce headed by senior IAS officer Dr Taradatt had last year suggested to the Government for cancellation of nearly 2,000 allotments of plots and houses under the discretionary quota, which were made since January 1995 on the basis of false declarations in affidavits.

In October last year, the Vigilance Directorate had registered five cases booking at least ten Government officials and five beneficiaries in which investigations are on. The CDA, the BDA and the OSHB have initiated individual inquiries against the beneficiaries of multiple allotments.

The matter was handed over to the Vigilance for investigation and necessary action amid demands by various forums to hand over the matter to the CBI. Basing on a letter petition that was later converted into a PIl, the Orissa High Court too is currently adjudicating the petition that seeks a CBI inquiry.
