Haramohan Nayak, Inspector-in-Charge of the Narasinghpur police station under Athagarh sub-division was arrested by Vigilance officials on the charge of taking bribe of Rs 5,000 from one Susanta Samal of Kathakhunta village to settle his civil dispute pending with him.

As Nayak had been demanding the bribe, Samal intimated this to the Vigilance department. So, a trap was laid by the Vigilance. When Samal handed over the money to Nayak, a Vigilance team led by DSP Anant Narayan Mohanty caught the IIC red-handed.

But later immediately, Nayak gulped the bribe currency notes in a bid to destroy evidence. However, the Vigilance officials succeeded in recovering the notes from his mouth.

later, Nayak’s official residence was raided and cash of over Rs 50,000 and other properties were seized. Besides, raid was also conducted at his paternal residence in Dhenkanal.

It is to be noted that Nayak was chosen as the best police officer of the sub-division and awarded on the last Republic Day by the Athagarh administration. He was also awarded by other organisations and by local MlA and Minister Debi Prasad Mishra recently.
