'MSDP is yet to benefit Gajapati minority people'

R Udayagiri block chairman Dasarathi Gomango reviewed implementations of the Multi-Sectoral Development Programme (MSDP) recently amid allegations that the programme has been least implemented for the development of the minority community in the block. Gomango held discussions with the BDO, social workers, PRI representatives and complainants.

According to a complaint lodged by Zilla Parishan member Jagabandhu Dash, even though MSDP has been implemented since 2009, no minority family in the block has availed housing benefit under the scheme. The meeting urged the Government to expand implementation of MSDP schemes in minority concentrated areas and earmark funds for Indira Awas, Mo Kudia Yajona, jobs for unemployed youths, women empowerment programmes, support to widows, children and handicapped persons.

Notably, the Centre has provided Rs 10 crore to each block in the district. While a part of fund is meant to meet socio-economic and educational needs of minority communities yet minority leaders and organisations have alleged that the MSDP have not benefited the community.

“MSDP is a good development scheme for the minorities. But they have not got benefits due to its improper implementation by the State Government,” social activist Rabi Rathan said and added, “It is very disappointing that no one minority representative was invited to the district planning committee of MSDP. Unless funds mismanagement is stopped and corrupt officials are punished, the scheme will not be effective.”

Villagers of Tandiguda, Chaligada, RUdayagiri, Sugada, Nutangarh, Talada, P Silong, Ranalai, Balisahi, Khamarisahi and Ramagiri also alleged that the BDO has struck out their names from Indira Awas & Mo Kudia Yojona under MSDP.
