All attempts to save the first-time BJD MP from Kandhamal Hemendra Chandra Singh failed as he succumbed to septicemia leading to multi-organ failure on late Thursday night. He was 47 and is survived by his wife Kunwarini Pratyusha of a royal family of Nepal, a son and a daughter.
Family sources said he was healthy a few days ago before he consumed large amounts of crabs and prawns, leading to complications in heart. He was admitted to the AMRI Hospital on Saturday last after he suffered serious cardiac arrest and was put on a ventilator in the ICU. As his condition deteriorated, there were plans to fly him to AIIMS, Delhi on Friday, for which an air ambulance was organised. However, he died a few hours before. Governor SC Jamir, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and leaders of all political parties condoled Singh’s demise.
