MP seeks steps to curb crocodile menace in K'pada

Local MP Anubhav Mohanty submitted the Management Action Plan (MAP) for the management and conservation  of mangrove areas in the State during the year 2020- 2021  to Union Enviornment Minister Prakash Javadekar and requested to release the required funds for effective implement of the plan.

Mohanty in the letter to Javadekar informed that the State Level Sanctioning Committee(SLSC) was held on May 28 in which the MAP of the management and conservation  of mangroves areas was approved. He too brought to the notice of the Union Minister about the frequent crocodile attacks in the district of Kendrapada and the loss of human lives along with the sorry  plight of  injured victims.

Most of the victims of such attacks are from the fishing community who depend on water to collect their  livelihood. But the water bodies are infested with crocodiles. Though barricades are erected and human entry is forbidden during the mating and nesting season of the crocodiles, but human-mammal conflict is on the rise, said MP Mohanty, urging the Minister to take tangible and immediate action.
