The Rourkela Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court on Saturday allowed the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Madhya Pradesh Police to take Mohammad Salek, the fourth of the five SIMI terrorists arrested from Rourkela, on a 15-day remand.
Notably, the NIA has already taken three terrorists on remand.
The ATS had submitted a special request petition sent by the Second Additional District Sessions Court of Bhopal while seeking Salek’s remand on March 2. The Rourkela SDJM Court accepted it and allowed the ATS to take him on remand.
Notably, five SIMI activists Mehboob Khan, Mohd Salik, Amjad Khan, Zakir Hussain and Mehboob’s mother Najma Biwi had been arrested from the Quereshi Mohalla of Nala Road locality of Rourkela early on February 17 morning after an exchange of fire with a joint team of Telangana and the Odisha police.
All of these terrorists belong to Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh. They were in the most-wanted list by NIA and had a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on their heads each. Earlier, they had escaped from Khandwa jail in 2013.
