Moving car catches fire in city

A moving Tata Indigo car caught fire near the Nalco Bhawan at Chandrasekharpur on Wednesday. However, the driver and other occupants of the car managed to get out in time before flames engulfed the vehicle.

After receiving information, Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the spot and tried to bring the blaze under control.

The mishap occurred when smoke billowed out of the bonnet of the car bearing registration No. OD 02 G8636, and within two minutes fire engulfed the vehicle completely.

In a similar incident a couple of months ago, a car had caught fire neat the Reserve Bank of India Regional Office at Kharavel Nagar.

Experts say in case of such fires, not always the vehicle manufacturer but people’s carelessness is to be blamed. Most people opt for after-market accessories such as stereos, security systems, headlamps and reverse parking sensors. While working on the fitment, there is a chance that the worker may snap a wire and this cannot be detected till it actually short circuits

After all the free services that the car manufacturers offer, customers may choose to go to workshops that are not likely to have skilled workers. This makes a car prone to even more damage as an exposed wire or so much as even an unfastened bolt could lead to catastrophic consequences, the experts say.

For prevention they suggested servicing the car on a regular basis, changing the air and oil filters, engine coolant, and engine oil improves the health of the car.
