Movement of outsiders blamed by health authorities

Even though the Covid-19 positive cases are declining in other parts of the State, the pandemic situation in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar is stuck in a deadly plateau that is stretching for days.

The daily positive cases are hovering around 200 to 300 for the last several days in the twin cities. This is due to the regular movement of outsiders to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, said Health Services Director Dr Bijay Mohapatra on Friday. But the rate of hospitalisation and severity is going down in last 15 days in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

The number of people requiring ventilator support and ICU is decreasing,” he added. Notably, Khordha district, which includes capital city Bhubaneswar, registered 446 infections while Cuttack recorded 319 positive cases in last 24 hours. Mohapatra further said community has a significant role to play in controlling a pandemic even as Government takes every measure for containment of virus spread. Not only  Government but help of community is also need of hour to defeat pandemic, Mohapatra said. Keeping all aspects in view, the Government has eased restrictions. It doesn't mean people should lower guard, he added.“The Government relaxed lockdown restrictions to balance life and livelihood. Now, we need cooperation from community.

All should be aware of their responsibility. We have also ramped up treatment and surveillance. All measures are being taken by Government. A joint effort of community and Government is required to curb pandemic,” Mohapatra said. Appealing to people to take vaccine doses, he said that only 0.3 per cent people are found re-infected after being inoculated. No one is found getting critical after receiving final dose. The vaccine helps increase antibodies against virus, he pointed out.
