A demonstration was organised here on Friday to oppose opening of liquor shops in Gopalpur-on-Sea beach in the name of promoting tourism. An attempt is being made to hand over the beach to private interests, they said. The organisations which participated in the protest were Manav Adhikar Surakhya Manch, Retired Teachers’ Association, Om Laughing Club, Jana Jagaran Manch, Akhila Bharat Krantikari Sangha, Pujya Puja Samiti, Odisha Liquor Free Manch, Akhila Bharat Krantikari Krushak Sabha and Bhagabata Charitable Trust. The demonstration was led by Shyam Sundar Khadanga, Abani Kumar Gaya, Hrushikesh Patro and Ramesh Chandra Sahu.
