The State Transport Authority (STA) collected Rs 117-crore motor vehicle revenue in September this year registering an increase of more than 31% over the August collection of Rs 89.5 crore.
However, the collection was still 7% less than Rs 126 crore during September last year.
After opening of activities following the lockdown restriction from June onwards, the motor vehicle revenue is improving every month. In June, 2020 the collection was 15% less than that collection in June 2019.
Similarly, the July collection was 18% less and August was 20% less. However, the collection in September 2020 has bridged the collection figure gap.
The collection has picked up due to a growing sale of new motor vehicles and collection of taxes due to increased economic activities, particularly in the mining sector, said a statement issued by the STA.
The revenue collection for the period from April to September stood at Rs 501 crore, which is still 36% less comparing to that of Rs 787 crore in the same period of last financial year.
The collection in the minerals-rich belts has gone up in September. Jharsuguda has collected Rs 3.38 crore in September 2020 compared to Rs 2.39 crore in September 2019.
Keonjhar district has collected Rs 6.98 crore compared to Rs 5.27 crore; Rourkela Rs 8.8 crore compared to Rs 6.99 crore; Sundargarh district Rs 4.67 crore compared to Rs 2.22 crore; and Talcher Rs 2.74 crore compared to Rs 2.13 crore.
The increased collections in these areas are mostly due to revamped mining activity.
