Motion against Vyasanagar civic body chief fails

The no-confidence motion against Vyasanagar  Municipality   Chairperson Sabita Rout was dismissed on Saturday due to absence of all the 26 Councillors.

“The Councillors, including 16 belonging to the BJD, kept away from the no-trust vote, for which the motion was rejected,” said Kalinganagar Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Abdul Alim Khan.

This is the second time that Rout faced no-confidence motion after September 7 last year. This time, the motion had been moved against her by eight Congress Councillors and an Independent Councillor. As per law, in the absence of two-thirds of Councillors a no-confidence motion cannot be passed.

Notably, on December 28 last, BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had  suspended Sabita Rout from the party for anti-party activities.
