More rains predicted in 24 hours

Even as incessant rains have thrown life out of gear in parts of the State and farmers are in distress over protecting their standing crops, the Regional Office of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Thursday predicted more rains at different places in the next 24 hours under the influence of a depression over the Bay of Bengal.

The IMD further stated that a low pressure formed over the sea has turned into a depression and it lay centred about 210 km south-southwest direction of Gopalpur.

The depression, which is moving in north-northeast direction at 14 km per hour, would weaken after 24 hours. One or two places in the coastal areas may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Wind speed would be 40-50 km per hour when the depression would cross the Odisha coast, the IMD further forecasted.

Besides, the weather office stated that interior parts of the State would experience moderate rainfall due to the depression in the Bay of Bengal. Fishermen were advised not to venture into sea.

The IMD also predicted that rain would lash some places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Baleswar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur and Sundargarh districts on Friday.
