Alleging they were duped by the Seashore nonbanking financial company, several investors and agents of the firm lodged a complaint with the Sahadevkhunta police on Tuesday evening.
They filed the complaint containing signatures of as many as 40 persons. They insisted on registration of a case against the company and also demanded that the police take on remand company CMD Prasant Dash. They said the company has siphoned at least Rs 100 crore through its Baleswar branch offices by offering lucrative schemes which included fixed deposit, saving deposit, recurring deposit, gold bond, lMP and preferential share schemes.
The company collected the money under its three main subsidiaries, Seashore Multipurpose Cooperative limited, Seashore Securities limited and Sanket Investment Private limited. They further alleged that the CMD and other directors of the company, apart from acquiring lands, buildings and SUVs in their names out of the depositors’ hard-earned money, also deposited money in some banks in fictitious names. The police, on the other hand, said the probe against the company is in progress the by Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the State Crime Branch and there is no need of any further registration of cases.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) of Baleswar district Nagendra Nayak said, “Since the EOW has already initiated a probe against the company, there is no requirement of registration of another case here. So, we asked the complainants, the depositors as well as agents, to approach the EOW and tag their investment details with it.”
