As per the recent bird status survey report of the Bhitarkanika National Park, more migratory birds have come to the park than last year. An encouraging fact is that more bird species have thronged this winter to the sanctuary than last year.
While last year 106 bird species had been spotted, this time 109 species have come to the park. According to Rajnagar Mangrove (Forest) and Wildlife DFO Kedar Kumar Swain, as many as 84,563 birds of 96 types have been sighted in the area whereas 28,663 birds of 109 species have been found in the Mahanadi delta. In the last year status survey of midwinter waterfall migratory birds, the forest personnel had sighted 68,515 birds of 106 types.
