While a plea by the Commissionerate Police for a voice sample test of arrested mafia Dhalsamant brothers is still pending in a lower court here, the hearing on a PIl seeking A CBI Inquiry into the brothers’ political link could not be taken up by the High Court on Thursday.

Sources said although the PIl was listed for preliminary hearing, it could not be taken up due to paucity of time. Similarly, the SDJM Court here reserved its verdict after completion of the hearing on the police’s plea for a voice sample test. Since the police claim to have seized an audio CD from the house of the Dhalsamants, they want such a test as part of their evidence to pin the brothers on the extortion charges.

In another development, the city police on the day arrested one more associate of the brothers who allegedly was involved in the 2013 incident of abduction and murder of Dipu Mallick and Om Prakash Swain.

“We have arrested one Subhendu Das alias Peenta of the Bidanasi area,” said Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora, adding that the accused was associated with the mafia brothers for last five years.

In a new development, yet another relative of a murder victim on the day approached the police apprehending the hands of the Dhalsamant brothers in the murder of a pulses trader of Malgodown here. Md Farooq, who was trading with pulses in the biggest wholesale market, was shot dead in November 2014.
