Worried over the rising trend of youths getting involved in immoral activities like rape and murder, Odisha Krushak Mahasangha president Bibhudhendra Pratap Das has urged the Union and State Governments to ensure inclusion of moral education in school and college curriculums.

In a letter to Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani and Odisha Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister and School and Mass Education Minister, Das said, “Moral education is badly necessary in the interest of the State as well as of the country because day by day most of youths are involved in violence and inhuman activities like rape and murder.”

“An outline on the life, work and philosophy of Shankaracharya, Gautam Buddha, Nanak, Vivekananda, Chhatrapati Sivaji, Rana Pratap and laxmi Bai, Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Md Iqbal and Bhimabhoi should be included in school and college syllabus,” Das has suggested.

“Today it is all the more necessary that moral education is included in the curriculums in schools and colleges,” Das stated. He further proposed that the State include stories on some of the regional heroes, reformers in primary and secondary education of their respective textbooks.
