Ahead of the panchayat polls, the BJD on Friday decided to conduct a month-long State-wide Jansamparak Padayatra (Public contact drive) from October 2, the Gandhi Jayanti.
Party spokesperson and Jansampark Padayatra convenor Pratap Jena told reporters here that during the campaign party leaders and workers would reach out to people conveying them how far the BJD Government has fulfilled its promises and at same time highlighting the negligence of the Central Government meted out to the State.
Earlier on Thursday, BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had asked all party cadres to take full advantage of the party’s Jansampark Padyatra this year for the benefit of the party ahead of the rural polls.
Patnaik directed the organisers to hold the drive for a full month from October 2 to November 2instead of 10 days as was in past years.
The party too has decided to observe the Utkalmani Gopabandhu Jayanti (October 9) and loknayak Jayprakash Jayanti (October 11) at block levels even as the events fall during the Dussehra period.
Besides, the Biju Patnaik birth centenary and the 80th year celebration of formation of Odisha would be observed during the Padyatra.
