Monsoon to be delayed in State

Published on:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday did a flip-flop and said the onset of monsoon in Odisha is likely to get delayed.

There is every possibility that the southwest monsoon would not touch the State on June 12, it said.

Normally, the southwest monsoon reaches the State between June 12 and 15.

The southwest monsoon has further advanced over some parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal.

The weather office said that at present, the conditions are not favourable and the strong westerly wind is also affecting the advancement of monsoon. As a result, several parts of Odisha are experiencing heat wave conditions.

Only after reviewing the conditions over next two to three days, the picture regarding what would be the advancement of the monsoon would get cleared.

Earlier, the IMD had predicted above-normal rainfall in Odisha in the month of June.
