A low pressure area has formed in north of the Bay of Bengal which would increase the monsoon circulation. Following this, monsoon is likely to hit Odisha by June 9 to 11,” said new Indian Metrological Department (IMD) Regional Director HR Biswas.
Biswas said that even as scattered rainfall was now reported in the State, the IMD here brought cheers predicting favourable condition for monsoon.
With this, several north Odisha districts are likely to experience thunderstorm and rainfall within the next 24 hours and the rainfall would increase subsequently,
Two warnings for the next 24 hours were made for isolated heavy rainfall in only four southern districts, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput.
The IMD had on May 18 forecast that the southwest monsoon was likely to hit Odisha in the second week of June.
Stating that the southwest monsoon is most likely to hit Kerala on May 29, the IMD had said that the monsoon would move towards the Odisha coast. The present weather condition is favourable to drag the monsoon current.
Normally, the southwest monsoon reaches Odisha on June 10, the IMD had said.
