The southwest monsoon is likely to hit the Odisha coast between June 14 and 16, the local office of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.

“Considering the weather conditions, there is every possibility that the monsoon will hit the Odisha coast between June 14 and 16. The extreme heat wave that has tormented the people in western and interior parts of the State would continue for another three to four days, particularly in the interior regions. However, there is possibility of thunderstorms in the coastal parts of the State,” said Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar Director Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu.

Meanwhile, five places in the State recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius on Sunday. Balangir recorded the highest temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius followed by Hirakud at 42.1 degree, Jharsuguda at 41.5, Sambalpur at 41.3 and Sundargarh at 40 degree.

Even though the mercury has come down below 40 degree in the coastal parts, high humidity has made life miserable. The State capital recorded temperature of 38 degree Celsius on Sunday.
