The southwest monsoon has finally hit Odisha covering its coastal districts initially, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.

“The southwest monsoon has set in over some parts of coastal districts of Odisha today. It has covered some parts of the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Baleswar,” an IMD bulletin informed.

It also predicted that heavy rainfalls are likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Balaswar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul and Jajpur within the next 24 hours.

Strong and gusty surface wind speed reaching 45-50 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the north Odisha coast, for which fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
